Overview
What it does
OpenAI's Help Center says custom GPTs are scheduled to retire on Dec 11, 2026 (Feb 11, 2027 for affected Enterprise workspaces with an approved deferral). For affected Enterprise workspaces, OpenAI's FAQ also lists "Oct 26, 2026 (planned): Creation of new custom GPTs ends." OpenAI adds: "Note that the dates are subject to change." Check its FAQ and your in-product notice.
This setup kit walks you through moving a GPT you created:
- Primary route: OpenAI's own Migrate to plugin option in My GPTs (instructions become a skill, knowledge files become reference files, connected apps become apps).
- Fallback: rebuild it as a ChatGPT Project if plugins aren't available to you.
- Optional, dots only: if your plan has dots, hand the GPT's recurring job to your dot as a scheduled task. You paste the GPT's guidance into a chat with your dot. Custom Rules (optional) set which supported actions your dot can take independently, which require your approval, and which it should not take. Each account has one dot for now. Per OpenAI's dot help page (checked 2026-10-24), dots are rolling out to Pro users aged 18 and older in markets excluding the EEA, Switzerland, and the UK; Business Premium users in supported ChatGPT regions, subject to workspace eligibility requirements; and Enterprise (including Edu and Healthcare) as a beta when the workspace admin enables it, initially turned off by default. Set up in the ChatGPT mobile app (iOS or Android), the desktop app, or desktop web; not mobile web. You don't need a dot to use the rest of the kit.
Worksheets cover what OpenAI says does not carry over: custom actions, the selected model, and sharing settings.
Who it's for: people who built a custom GPT and want to keep what it does.
What it never does: it doesn't migrate anything for you, doesn't include a plugin file or code, doesn't name apps for you (you check what your workspace has), and doesn't promise the replacement behaves the same.
Not yet run in ChatGPT. Steps follow OpenAI help pages checked on 2026-10-24; file structure checked locally.

What you get
Inside the kit
In the kit
- A README
- Step-by-step setup instructions
- A paste-in brief and instructions for your dot
Not included
- One-click import: none is documented for this platform
- Logins or account access: you use your own account
Setup kit (paste-in brief and instructions). OpenAI does not document a way to share a dot or a dot template, so there is no one-click import. Each account has one dot for now, so a kit sets up your existing dot rather than a new one. The kit is a zip with a README, the brief, and instructions you paste into a chat with your dot yourself. Each task has its own conversation and does not automatically get your other conversations with your dot, so include the guidance in the task where you need it. Custom Rules in ChatGPT set which supported actions your dot can take independently, which require your approval, and which it should not take, so the kit's sourcing and tone guidance goes in the task, not in Custom Rules.

Requirements
| Platform | ChatGPT dotsDots are rolling out to Pro users aged 18 and older outside the EEA, Switzerland, and the UK, and to Business Premium users in supported regions, subject to workspace eligibility requirements. On Enterprise (including Edu and Healthcare), a workspace admin has to enable the beta, which is initially turned off by default. You can create your dot in the ChatGPT mobile app on iOS or Android, the desktop app, or on desktop web; mobile web is not supported. |

| Requirements | For people who created a custom GPT. Migrate to plugin availability varies by account; OpenAI's pages don't say plainly whether personal Plus or Pro accounts get it, so a Project fallback is included. GPT retirement dates are OpenAI's and are subject to change. Affected Enterprise workspaces: per OpenAI's FAQ (checked 2026-10-24), "Oct 26, 2026 (planned): Creation of new custom GPTs ends." and "Note that the dates are subject to change." Dots are optional (per OpenAI's help pages, checked 2026-10-24): each account has one dot for now, so the kit adds a task to your existing dot; Pro users aged 18 and older in markets excluding the EEA, Switzerland and the UK; Business Premium in supported ChatGPT regions, subject to workspace eligibility requirements; Enterprise (including Edu and Healthcare) beta when the admin enables it, initially turned off by default. Create a dot in the ChatGPT mobile app on iOS or Android, the desktop app, or desktop web; mobile web is not supported. "Dots are rolling out gradually. Access may take several days to reach your account." No waitlist documented. Custom Rules are optional; on Enterprise, "Use custom rules for dots" is off by default. Copy-paste setup; no import file. |

Changelog
- 1.1.02026-10-25Cautions added, nothing was wrong: a dated "Dates to know" note (checked 2026-10-25 against OpenAI's FAQ), a voice-mode test step based on one unverified user report, and the first-month dot limits line re-dated. Not yet run in ChatGPT. 2026-10-25 fixes: the "Dates to know" boxes now give their source links, the Oct 26 cutoff is marked planned, and the personal-plan line is credited to OpenAI's "GPTs in ChatGPT" article; the disclaimer now also names X Corp., Anysphere (Cursor) and Robin Delta (maker of Alfred).
- 1.0.02026-10-24Initial draft. Facts checked against OpenAI help pages on 2026-10-24.
